THE PLACE

Ediger-Eller at the Moselle
Ediger-Eller is one of the most attractive places along the Moselle to spend a holiday! The idyllic winemaker’s village looks back on a long and rich history.

Across the past centuries, many people and cultures – from the Romans and Celts over the Merowingian dynasty up to the mystical Knights Templar – left their traces here.
The picturesque look of the village invites you to a trip of discovery back into times long past.

The remains of the medieval city walls bear witness to an eventful history, where kings and bishops moulded the fate of the world. Gothic architecture of the late middle ages mixes with homey timber frame-style along the narrow alleyways.
Especially during the night time, when the alleys are illuminated by historical street lights made from forged iron, it is next to impossible to deny their unique charm.

Old City Gate in Ediger
The pious devotion towards the Catholic Church in Ediger-Eller dates back on a long tradition.

The bell tower of St. Martinus in Ediger counts as the most beautiful gothic spire along the German part of the Moselle.

A historical Via Dolorosa leads towards the “Kreuzkapelle” (Chapel of the Cross) high above the village.

Within the chapel you will find the famous stone relief “Christus in der Kelter” (Christ in the Wine Press), which emphasizes the pious significance of the wine being the Blood of Christ.

And when you take a surrounding view from the hilltop, you will look down upon a place which has retained the mysterious charm of the old times until today.
